WEC

If you are not familiar with the WEC (World Extreme Cagefighting). you are missing out. WEC is the little brother to the larger UFC and both promotions are owned by Zuffa. WEC focuses on lighter weight classes and is sometimes used as a developmental league of sorts for the UFC. The fights are generally good, and the best part is they are all broadcast on the Versus Network which is carried by most cable and satellite providers.

Sunday, June 1st the WEC will be broadcasting LIVE on Versus the equivalent to a UFC PPV event. The card as of today is as follows.

Urijah Faber (Featherweight Champion) 20-1-0 Vs. Jens Pulver 22-8-1
Yoshiro Maeda 22-4-2 Vs. Miguel Angel Torres (Bantamweight Champion) 33-1-0
Chuck Grigsby15-3-0 Vs. Mark Munoz 3-0-0
Kenneth Alexander 5-2-0 Vs. Rob McCullough 15-3-0

The Faber Vs. Pulver match is going to be a great fight. This match is arguably between two of the greatest light weight MMA fighters in the world if not of all time. Faber is the current title holder and comes into the fight with a record of 20-1-0. Pulver, A former UFC Lightweight champ comes in with an equally impressive 22-8-1 record. Pulver has moved down to the 145 pound class for this fight and he feels that this is his more natural weight class. If you have no other reason to watch this WEC Event, watch it because of this fight.

Another fight to watch out for is between Yoshiro Maeda, who is fighting his second fight in the WEC after making the jump from PRIDE, Vs. Bantamweight Champion Miguel Torres. Maeda is a strong standup fighter with knockout power and Torres is known for his skill in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with 21 of his 33 wins coming by submission. This looks to be another great fight in the 135 lb weight class.

I will be offering up my not-so-expert analysis and predictions tomorrow. Does anyone (Will) have any predictions to offer? Also, if anyone knows of a good place to watch the fight Sunday night (other than in my living room), let me know.
